Anonymous Unregistered	Dave, You need only an occupational licence. See your local tax collector. However, as a handyman you are restricted as to what you can legaly do, as in, if you need a tool, you are probably not allowed to do it!

Anonymous Unregistered	It's not quite that simple and you need to get the facts about Workers comp requirments too, it's mandatory now unless your a corp and 3 officers can be exemp.

However, please be aware that you may be required to carry worker's compensation insurance on the first worker - yourself. If you want to exempt yourself from worker's comp insurance you can do so by incorporating and being an officer who owns at least 10% of that corporation. If you are in the contruction industry in Florida - you must have worker's compensation if you have not exempted yourself. That means you need a Florida corporation and you can exempt up to 3 officers so long as those officers own at least 10% of the corporation. edo Junior Member Registered: 09/13/06 Posts: 2 Loc: Florida	I am a state licensed contractor. If you want to pull permits, you need to be licensed, either at the state or county level. As a sole proprietor, you can get your worker's comp exemption without incorporating, as long as you have no employees and can prove that you have health insurance. This will allow you to work for licensed contractors, but not to operate as a contractor yourself. If you are not licensed with the state and/or registered with the county you're in, and you are contracting any construction work, you are violating the law. If you want to work for yourself, then incorporating is a good idea, but anyone telling you that you HAVE to incorporate is probably making money from the incorporation process. _________________________ Your crew is the only thing that stands between you and certain failure.
